Love lessons from Martin Nievera
Martin Nievera’s timeless hits have seen us through all the twists and turns of our own love stories. For every stage of love, there’s a Nievera song.
As the Concert King serenaded us all these years, he also went through his own love battles. He fought, lost, won and loved again. But he never stopped singing for us, even when he was picking up the pieces of his tattered heart.
Come Valentine’s Day, Martin will pay homage to love with Pops Fernandez, Regine Velasquez and Ogie Alcasid in “Foursome” at MOA Arena. What an engaging mix it would be to watch exes and a happily married couple banter and sing about l’amour and marriage.
Since Pops and you, Reg and Ogie have different love stories, how will “Foursome” merge your stories to come up with a unique concert?
Article continues after this advertisementNo more stories need to be told. Just sharing love lessons from each other while celebrating love, conquering all obstacles with an arena hopefully filled to the rim with hopeless romantics from all over the country.

To never chant the words, “been there… done that.” Enjoy love and their relationship the way they did when love was still new for them.
At this point in time, what do you see when you look at Pops?
I see a little girl I once knew all grown up. I feel a sense of pride knowing that I was a part of Pops [while she was] getting to… love herself the way I never could. She is as beautiful today as she ever was. Maybe even a little bit more. I mean, if a butterfly could metamorphose one more time, that would be Pops.
How has your view on love and marriage changed through the years?
I am afraid of marriage. I was good at it when I was good, but when I was bad, well… I admire and respect all those who have proved me wrong about marriage by lasting and surviving in theirs. Marriage for me is something we should not take lightly. Marriage is not the answer but instead a lifetime of questions.
What do you wish you had known before when you were still married to Pops that you know now?
1 + 1 = 2.
Do you still believe in forever?
When my worse gets better, then I may have a chance to find forever. I still believe in forever. The better question is, does forever still believe in me?
