Even if Chelsea Manalo failed to bring home the Miss Universe crown, Miss Universe Philippines national director Shamcey Supsup said she is proud of her and knew that she did her best in the competition.

In an interview that’s making the rounds of social media following the coronation night in Mexico, Supsup applauded Manalo’s performance given that she was still able to showcase her signature “Tampisaw Walk” during the swimsuit segment as part of the Top 30 finalists.

“When I say Chelsea’s performance sa swimsuit sobrang flawless. It was everything that we wanted. Her ‘Tampisaw Walk’ was out. Like I said, you can only do 50 percent; the other 50 percent is not in your hands. But for me, she did a great job. That’s the most important thing,” she said.

Despite failing to get in the Top 12 of the competition, Manalo ended up being named the Miss Universe continental queen of Asia, one of the four special titles launched by the Miss Universe Organization. As part of her new role, Manalo would be serving the court of Miss Universe 2024 Victoria Kjaer Theilvig of Denmark and would be touring countries in Asia to drum up support for the pageant organization.

Supsup likewise reminded Manalo to not blame herself regardless of the results.

“Chelsea, I love you. You know that I’ve always believed in you. You did a great job. I’m speechless at your performance. Whatever the results, it’s not even your fault. It’s destiny. The most important thing is that you’re happy; you’re happy with your performance. And you made the Filipinos proud,” she stated.

Supsup also commended Theilvig for her remarkable performance, despite her seeming lack of training, which only enhanced her authenticity that this crop of judges seemed to be looking for.

“Of course, Denmark, I’ve always loved her. There’s something about her and to think that she didn’t bring any fanbase with her, but you can hear that the cheers for her were as loud as that of Mexico,” she said.

“And maybe people would think her answers at the Q&A (question and answer portion) were not that flawless, but for a country that has not been in the Miss Universe pageant [powerhouse], for sure she didn’t do any training. I think what the judges found in her is her being authentic, being genuine. She says whatever she feels like saying,” the Miss Universe 2011 3rd runner-up further said of Theilvig.
