“The Voice” season 2 grand winner Jason Dy, seemingly exasperated over the various rejections he had experienced in the past, nearly gave up his dream of becoming a singer.

“I auditioned for “Pilipinas Got Talent,” “X-Factor,” “The Voice” season 1. Lagi akong nare-reject noon.  (I was always rejected then). Maski sa mga mall screening pa lang, hindi ako nakakapasok (Even in mall screenings, I could not qualify),” Dy revealed on March 1 in a zoom conference as the newly signed artist of Star Music.

Dy said that he had set his audition for “The Voice Season” season 2 as his “ultimatum” for himself.

“Kapag hindi pa rin ako makapasok sa competition na ito, hindi na ako mag-a-audition,” he revealed. (If I am not able to join this competition, I will no longer audition).

But fate smiled at him and he won the reality search for music artist.

And now that there’s a new season for “The Voice Kids,” Dy revealed that memories flashed back to him.

“It’s been eight years since winning “The Voice” pero parang kailan lang, parang kahapon lang. Every time na naririnig ko ang intro (ng “The Voice”) kasi ‘di ba kababalik pa lang ng “The Voice,” kapag pinapanood ko siya, parang kinakabahan pa rin ako.  Feeling ko magko-compete pa rin ako,” he said. (“It’s been eight years since I won in “The Voice,” but it’s like only recently, just like only yesterday. Every time I hear the intro [of “The Voice], since it just returned recently, whenever I watch it, I still feel nervous. I feel that I am competing again).

Now that he’s in his eighth year in the music business, Dy admitted that he has learned to love his craft.

“Mas lalo kong  minahal ‘yung pagkanta. Mas lalo kong minahal ‘yung pag-perform kasi hindi ko na lang siya passion, hindi ko na lang siya hobby,  talagang livelihood ko na siya. (I have love singing even more. I love performing more because it’s not only my passion, it’s not only a hobby, it has become my livelihood.)

Now, he strives to be better every time he performs and gives his full attention to his music career.

“I always make the conscious decision to be always ready, always prepared for the  events. ‘Yung professionalism talaga ay na-instill sa akin (Professionalism has become instilled in me),” he said.

Dy faces a new era in his music career with the release of the song “Ulit-ulit,” which is about one’s frustration over constant arguments in a relationship.

“The song talks about that point in the relationship where the fights are getting repetitive. It’s just the same argument over and over and nothing gets resolved,” he shared.  “It’s about whether the relationship is worth saving or it is heading towards the end,” he said.
