MANILA, Philippines — Charo Laude never thought she would be a part of an entry to the Metro Manila Film Festival, but is now over the moon at the success of “Deleter” and its lead actress Nadine Lustre who was proclaimed “Best Actress” for the film.

“At first we didn’t know that it was an entry to the filmfest. That’s why we were happy when we learned that it would be part of MMFF,” Laude told the Inquirer at the sidelines of the send-off press conference for the six queens of the Mrs. Universe Philippines pageant held at Simon’s Place Supreme restaurant in Quezon City on Jan. 19.

A former Mrs. Universe Philippines herself who entered the semifinals in the global competition in 2019, Laude is now the national director of the local search. Her six reigning queens will compete in the 2022 Mrs. Universe pageant in Sofia, Bulgaria, on Feb. 4 (Feb. 5 in Manila). The global tilt was originally scheduled in December in Seoul, South Korea. But circumstances prompted the international organization to move the competition back to its home country.

While watching over her national pageant, Laude still found the time to work on “Deleter,” and she said she is grateful for the opportunity. She also said Lustre was “really kind, easy to work with, very humble and really pretty.”

She also imparted this message to the award-winning actress: “Congratulations to you, my dear. I’m so happy for you and so proud of you. Hope to see you soon again and work with you again.”

“Deleter” is the top-grossing movie of the 2022 Metro Manila Film Festival.

Laude also shared that she has another movie coming up, this time under talent manager “Daddie” Wowie Roxas. The yet to be titled movie stars Alice Dixson and will be released sometime in the first quarter of the year.

After her new movie’s release, and when she comes back from Bulgaria, Laude will again be busy with the 2023 Mrs. Universe Philippines search, in preparation for the international Mrs. Universe pageant which will be staged in the country for the first time in October.

Laude said the negotiations began last year. “Thank you to the Mrs. Universe organization. I think they saw potential in our management here in the Philippines. And, of course, Philippines is one of the best countries to host, so they shouldn’t pass up the chance to hold it here,” she continued.

But before that, Laude will be cheering on her reigning queens in Bulgaria, led by Mrs. Universe Philippines Veronica Yu, along with other titleholders Gines Angeles, Lady Chatterly Alvaro-Sumbeling, Jeanie Jarina, Virginia Evangelista, and Michelle Solinap. EDV
