James Gunn says fans’ ‘disrespectful outcry’ over DC changes ‘will never, ever affect our actions’

Days after Henry Cavill announced his departure from Superman, DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn called out fans for their “disrespectful outcry” towards the future of its extended universe.
Gunn addressed the “uproarious and unkind” reactions to his and producer Peter Safran’s plans for DC Studios, as seen in a Twitter thread on Monday, Dec. 19. Although Cavill’s future in the extended universe wasn’t mentioned, the post was seemingly in response to the recasting.
“Our choices for the DCU are based upon what we believe is best for the story [and] best for the DC characters who have been around for nearly 85 years. Perhaps these choices are great, perhaps not, but they are made with sincere hearts [and] integrity [and] always with the story in mind,” Gunn tweeted.

The “Suicide Squad” director also stressed that the “disrespectful outcry” of fans will “never, ever affect our actions.” However, additional plans about the future of the DC Extended Universe remain under wraps.
“We were aware there would be a period of turbulence when we took this gig, [and] we knew we would sometimes have to make difficult [and] not-so-obvious choices, especially in the wake of the fractious nature of what came before us,” he wrote. “But this means little to us in comparison to our jobs as artists & custodians in helping to create a wide & wonderful future for DC.”

Gunn and Safran recently made headlines after it was confirmed they’re working on a “Superman” film that focuses on the superhero’s earlier life in Dec. 15. Cavill then announced his exit from the DC Extended Universe, which comes almost two months since he made initial announcements about his return prior to the filmmakers’ hiring.
Among those on the slate is Superman. In the initial stages, our story will be focusing on an earlier part of Superman’s life, so the character will not be played by Henry Cavill.

On the other hand, “Wonder Woman” director Patty Jenkins clarified on Dec. 14 that she didn’t walk away from the production of “Wonder Woman 3” but she seemingly bid farewell to the film series on social media. EDV
