WATCH: ‘Lord of the Rings’ cast reunite via video call to raise funds for COVID-19 relief
“Lord of the Rings” stars such as Sean Astin, Elijah Wood and Sir Ian McKellen reunited to support a charity during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The actors joined a video call led by Josh Gad for his series “Reunited Apart”, as seen on his YouTube page yesterday, May 31. The said episode will benefit No Kid Hungry, a campaign that provides food to children in the United States amid the health crisis.
Gad also titled the episode “One Zoom to Rule Them All”, referencing one of the trilogy’s popular quotes which said, “One Ring to rule them all.”
Gad started the online reunion by contacting Astin, who previously joined him for a “The Goonies” video call.
“I was wondering what you might think about tracking down a certain group of buddies, comrades, pals,” Gad asked Astin. “What’s another word for that? Maybe, I don’t know, a fellowship?”

After urging Astin to reach out to his co-stars, Wood suddenly joined the call. Following Wood’s appearance, his fellow cast members such as Orlando Bloom, Dominic Monaghan, Billy Boyd and the trilogy’s director and writer Peter Jackson, and Philippa Boyens popped up on the screen as well.
Throughout the reunion, the group looked back on the process of making the film and their respective roles. They also recited some of their favorite lines from the movie when more of their co-stars such as Liv Tyler, Andy Serkis, Hugo Weaving, Miranda Otto and Karl Urban joined the call.
Prior to the “Lord of the Rings” reunion, Gad had also brought together the stars of the movies “Splash” (1984) and “Back to the Future” (1985).
As the online get-together ended, Jackson reminded their fans that “it’s up to everybody to decide what the world after this pandemic is going to be like.” JB
