Myrtle Sarrosa has been mourning the recent passing of her grandmother in Davao. And what pained her even more was that she couldn’t fly out and pay her respects to her Lola Nene because of the community quarantine.

“I wasn’t able to see her off. And many couldn’t even attend her funeral. It has been sad. I have been down with all that has been happening around us,” Myrtle told the Inquirer in an e-mail interview.

But instead of bottling up her feelings, the actress-singer realized it would be better if she could, instead, convey messages of hope to everyone by taking part in “#HealingHearts,” a series of Facebook Live concerts featuring GMA 7 artists.

“We have to keep our hearts physically and emotionally healthy in times like these, and I just want to share some strength,” the cosplayer related. “My heart, too, is healing.”

The proceeds of her streams will benefit those in need of basic necessities, Myrtle said. “

Since our daily life is disrupted by the pandemic, many might feel trapped in their homes. I hope the songs I sang made them feel more inspired to look forward to better days ahead.”

“My only prayer is for everyone to take care of themselves and the people around them,” she added.

Inquirer Entertainment also asked other “#HealingHearts” artists to share their thoughts about the importance of maintaining connection with fans amid the pandemic:

Julie Anne’s most difficult number in ‘Divas’ concert isn’t by Whitney, Mariah and Celine

Julie Anne San Jose

JULIE ANNE SAN JOSE: Music is a way to heal the hearts of those who are in pain, fear and anxiety.
I wanted to do this Facebook-live show because I want to entertain our kababayan through music. Through livestream, I’m able to reconnect with my supporters, netizens and viewers. I hope to share with them some songs from my album because I know people will be able to relate to them.
While we’re still in quarantine, let’s take this time to reconnect with God. Whisper a prayer for healing and grace. Let’s pray for each other’s safety and health. Bond with your family. And always think that we will soon get through this.

MIRRIAM MANALO: The first song that comes to mind is “Heal the World” because it’s about unity, discipline, love and strength, which we all need right now. “The Prayer” is a way to reach out to God; “Hallelujah,” to praise Him. I have always believed that He’s the only way … God is here to protect us.
Music has had a big impact on our lives. It’s a way to build a connection, heal sadness and bring joy to people. The challenge we’re facing right now is no joke. And I hope to inspire and help Filipinos heal, in my own way.

GOLDEN CAÑEDO: Music gives hope and joy. I let my followers choose my songs because I want them to feel like they’re also part of this project.
Let’s continue to spread love and care. This is a challenge for us; everything happens for a reason. Don’t forget that we have God to protect and guide us always.

LEXI GONZALES: I know everyone could use a pat on the shoulder—an assurance that there’s hope. That’s why when this opportunity came, I knew that somehow, this could send a message that would make people and viewers feel that they are not alone and that a lot of people are also fighting this virus with them.
For me, music helps send positive, inspiring messages, which is what we need during these times. We need songs of faith, of encouragement; and of power to motivate us and boost our hearts.
Aside from disinfectants, face masks, soap, vitamins, we also need kindness. Pilipino tayo, kaya natin ‘to!

BRENT VALDEZ: Music is my getaway vehicle. Whenever I feel happy or down, I sing my heart out and listen to music.
I have always wanted to spread happiness through my God-given talents. I wanted to share stories with people and comfort them in this time of need.
I chose to perform “Greatest Love of All” because I know that many listeners will be able to relate to the song. Love is what we need in this time of crisis. This will pass soon. But for now, let’s help each other; obey the rules the government implemented. Let’s stay indoors, if we can.

JEREMIAH TIANGCO: Music speaks louder than words, and people can get encouragement and inspiration through it. My playlist [for the show] was inspired by the people who continue to remain strong despite our situation.
