‘Dragon Ball’ narrator Brice Armstrong dies at 84

The voice actor behind the English-dubbed version of the popular anime “Dragon Ball” passed away on Jan. 10 at the age of 84, his management Mary Collins Agency said in a Facebook post yesterday, Jan. 20.
It said Brice Armstrong died at his home due to natural causes.
Armstrong was best known for narrating the English-dubbed version of the original “Dragon Ball” series. He also lent his voice to some of its characters including Captain Ginyu and Lord Slug in “Dragon Ball Z.”

The series follows a character named Son Goku and his training in martial arts until he meets a girl named Bulma. She later convinces him to travel the world with her in search of seven orbs knowns as Dragon Balls.
Prior to becoming a voice actor, Armstrong worked in the radio industry starting in 1964. He began doing voiceovers for commercials in the late ’70s.
Aside from his work on “Dragon Ball,” he also voiced fictional characters on various shows including “Barney & Friends,” “Lupin III” and “Case Closed.” He retired from voice acting in 2009.
His wife of 42 years, Marianna, passed away in 2008. They are survived by their six children. /ra
