For the first time ever, Kim Chiu, JM De Guzman and Tony Labrusca are teaming up for a Filipino adaptation of Indian box office hit “U Turn”, a mystery thriller film that first came out in theaters in 2016.

Director Derick Cabrido, who directed 2019 horror film “Clarita”, will be handling the remake, as per a tweet from James Banaag of ABS-CBN earlier today, Dec. 5.

FEATURED STORIES

“U Turn” is a mystery thriller film written, produced and directed by Pawan Kumar. The movie tells of the story of a budding journalist and police inspector duo trying to determine the culprit of a crime on a particular flyover in one city.

The three stars said they are all “excited” for the film, as seen in a video clip posted by ABS-CBN PR on YouTube.

“‘Excited lang. Sana ‘di maubos ‘yung excitement ko (I hope I do not run out of excitement),” Chiu joked. “Pero exciting, exciting for the year 2020.”

De Guzman meanwhile said that he feels “blessed” to be working with director Cabrido and the other two stars.

“I just feel blessed and honored na makatrabaho (to work with) si Kim, si direk and si Tony. Na-overwhelm lang ako ng excitement (I am just overwhelmed with excitement),” he said.

Labrusca echoed the same sentiments, saying: “Very excited din po ako tsaka overwhelmed din kasi nung pinitch ni direk and nung team niya sakin, tapos sinabi nila na si Kim and si JM makakasama ko, I was like ‘wow, I don’t know if I can really do this.'”

(I am also very excited and overwhelmed at the same time because when director Cabrido and his team pitched the movie to me and said I would be working with Kim and JM, I was like “wow, I don’t know if I can really do this.”)

“Kasi they are two very good actors, and I was honest with Direk like, ‘Are you sure you want me? Because I believe in you guys, but I’m not sure if I necessarily believe in myself yet,” he added.

The 2016 movie used Kannada, a Dravidian language spoken in the southwestern part of India. It has already been remade twice in different Indian languages: the first one was by director V.K. Prakash in 2017, renamed “Careful”, which was in the Malayalam language; the second one was a 2018 bilingual film directed by Kumar again, this time in the Tamil-Telugu languages. It was titled the same as the original.

The team had a story conference earlier today for the upcoming film, which will be under the Kapamilya production company  Star Cinema, according to SineHub’s tweet.

When the production will start and when the movie is targeted to come out have yet to be announced, as of writing. NVG
