Poe mourns death of Garcia, a good friend of FPJ, family

MANILA, Philippines — Senator Grace Poe on Thursday expressed grief over the passing of veteran actor Eddie Garcia, whom she said was a “good friend” of her late father and her family.

Poe’s father was Fernando Poe Jr., an actor like Garcia.

She described Garcia as “one of the important foundations” of the Philippine film industry.

“Isa ka sa mahahalagang haligi ng industriya at naging isang tapat at mabuting kaibigan sa aking ama at sa aming pamilya (You are one of the pillars of the industry, a good and loyal friend to my father and our family),” Poe said in a Twitter post.

“We will miss you dearly. You and your family are in our prayers,” she added.

Meanwhile, outgoing Senator Francis “Chiz” Escudero urged Filipinos to pray for Garcia and his family.

“Please utter a short prayer for Lolo Eddie who is already in God’s hands and for Tita Lilibeth, their family and loved ones during this sorrowful and sad time,” Escudero said in a separate tweet.

At 90 years old, Garcia passed away on Thursday afternoon at the Makati Medical Center.
