GMA Network ‘deeply mourns’ death of Eddie Garcia

EDDIE Garcia plays a lawyer in love with a criminal in “Boy Golden.”

MANILA, Philippines — GMA Network on Thursday said it mourns the passing of veteran actor Eddie Garcia, who died days after falling into coma following an accident while taping for a teleserye in Tondo, Manila. He was 90 years old.

It was on June 8 that Garcia suffered a neck injury after tripping and falling while shooting for an upcoming GMA teleserye tentatively titled “Rosang Agimat.”

The network remembered Garcia as an “accomplished and respected actor and director, he was a movie icon and an industry pillar who has touched so many lives in the Philippine entertainment industry.”

“He left behind a legacy of professionalism, dedication, and love for his craft,” GMA Network also said.

Almost immediately after news of Garcia’s death came out, celebrities and politicians registered their accolades for the movie industry legend. They also conveyed their messages of sympathy to his family and loved ones. (Editor: Katherine G. Adraneda)
