Derek on breakup with longtime gf: It’s for the best

Only two months ago, Derek Ramsay was chatting to the entertainment press about how he was trying to think of different ways to propose to his girlfriend, Joanne Villablanca.
He wanted something spontaneous, he said.
But this week, the 42-year-old actor revealed that, after six years of dating, he and Joanne have decided to part ways.
When asked by the Inquirer for further comment about the breakup, Derek sent a terse text message that read, “Yes we have (broken up), but it’s for the best.”
The two also appear to have unfollowed each other on Instagram.
In an interview with reporters at his contract signing with GMA 7 in April, Derek thanked Joanne for being supportive and inspiring him to make a comeback in acting, after mulling retirement.
“She encouraged me and reminded me that I could do this,” he said. “She made me believe and helped me regain the right mind-set.” —ALLAN POLICARPIO
