Kit Thompson ashamed of butt exposure in ‘Sino Ang May Sala? Mea Culpa,’ but ‘role required it’

“If nudity will make for a juicier and better story, I’m willing to do it. The role required it,” declared Kit Thompson.
The 22-year-old actor agreed to do a butt exposure during a steamy love scene with Ivana Alawi in the mystery-drama series “Sino Ang May Sala? Mea Culpa.” The controversial scene can only be viewed on the streaming app iWant.
“When I watched it the first time, I felt ashamed. I remember covering my face. I just couldn’t watch,” Kit told the Inquirer.
He also admitted that he would have probably refused to do it had it not been for his director, Dan Villegas.
“I trust him. I think he’s a very good director. If somebody random will come to me and say, ‘Hey! I have a short film and I want to feature your ass in it,’ I’d probably not do it,” said the Filipino-New Zealander actor. “Since it’s with Dan, I know that the outcome was going to be great.”
In the series, Kit plays Greco, a lawyer and an agent of the National Bureau of Investigation, who has an affair with Ivana’s character Lolita. The two were law school batchmates.
Recalling the time he shot the scene, Kit said it took them between four and six takes. “Usually, there’s a wide shot and then some close-ups. It’s something that you won’t get used to easily. It’s different compared to when you’re doing it because you’re really in the moment. There are a lot of people around you, and that makes you feel uncomfortable.”
He added: “It seemed to have come out great. I don’t think it was lewd. It’s just the right amount of sexiness.”
Kit also said he made sure to take care of Ivana well. “I respect her as my scene partner,” he pointed out. “I didn’t want any tension or misunderstanding between us, especially during scenes like that. I wanted her to trust me so I talked with her before the shoot. I asked her how I could make her feel comfortable. I promised that when the director shouts ‘cut,’ I’d cover her—little things like that made the scene work.”
Kit described Greco as “bida-kontrabida. He fights for what he thinks is right and is good for the group,” he said, referring to Greco’s other law school batchmates: Juris played by Bela Padilla; Drei, Tony Labrusca; Gaylord, Sandino Martin; and Boggs/Armand, Ketchup Eusebio.
“What may be right for him could be wrong for other people. He has very strong beliefs about life because of how he grew up. That’s what I like about Greco,” Kit explained, adding that he had to train how to manipulate guns for his character.
“I also focused on the law part by watching a lot of videos to observe how they talk. They use a lot of … [legal terms] in Latin. I had to look up the pronunciation of these things. I spoke with lawyers, too, to ask them how the system runs. I have to look like I know what I’m talking about,” he said.
Expect more steamy love scenes from Kit with his new project, “Belle Douleur,” an entry in the 2019 Cinemalaya Philippine Independent Film Festival in August.
“It’s a little bit sexy and sensual, as well as heartbreaking,” said Kit, describing the movie by lawyer-turned-filmmaker Joji Alonso. It is a May-December affair-love story that features Mylene Dizon in the lead role.
Asked how he would compare it to “Glorious,” a movie with a similar theme featuring Angel Aquino and Tony Labrusca, Kit replied: “I know these two projects would be compared, but ours is a whole different story. Yes, it may have the same theme, but I hope people will keep their minds open. They should see it first.”
