Award-winning indie actor Kristofer King dead

MANILA, Philippines — Award-winning actor Kristofer King, who was known for his roles in independent films, has passed away.

According to a report by Radyo Inquirer, King, whose real name is Christopher Reyes, was rushed to the Adventist Medical Center Manila on Saturday when his heart stopped beating for a couple of minutes.

King, 36, was diabetic and had suffered from infection, pneumonia, heartburn, and sciatica, the report added.

The actor worked with broadcast journalist and film director Arlyn Dela Cruz-Bernal for projects such as “Maratabat” (2014), “Tibak” (2016), “Pusit” (2017) and “Bubog” (2017).

“A very intelligent actor, he (King) acts by reacting and understanding each scene,” said Dela Cruz-Bernal, who is also the news director of Radyo Inquirer.

Multi-awarded filmmaker Brilliante Mendoza extended prayers for the actor.

King played roles in some of Mendoza’s acclaimed movies, including “Ma’ Rosa” (2016),  “Tirador” (2007) and “Serbis” (2008), an independent film which, among others, bagged the Best Film of the Decade (2000-2009) trophy at the Gawad Urian Awards in 2011.

“You will always be my best actor,” said Brillante. “I will miss u King.”

King also acted alongside Coco Martin in the ABS-CBN’s hit television series “FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano,” playing the role of Alwyn Recio. Like King, Martin started his career as an indie actor.

In 2016, King won best actor for his starring role in Dexter Macaraeg’s short film, “Balitok,” at the  NYC Indie Film Awards  in New York City.  /cbb
