Christian to help in ‘Signal Rock’s’ Oscar campaign
Christian Bables said the possibility of going to the United States to work for “Signal Rock’s” Oscar campaign in the Best Foreign Language Film category excited him no end.
“It’s not considered work for me. It’s actually an honor,” declared the film’s lead star.
He added that while he was not sure what the Film Academy of the Philippines saw in “Signal Rock” that prompted it to pick the movie as our country’s Oscar representative, he was confident that “it won their hearts because it reflects true island life. It’s a story we haven’t heard before. It’s a reality that we have never seen until this movie was shown.”
Christian recently won a best actor award at the 2018 Hanoi International Film Festival for “Signal Rock.” Whenever he was asked how it was like to win for an acting piece, Christian said he would always mention John Lloyd Cruz, whose words had made a mark on him when they worked together in the film, “Finally Found Someone.”
“Sobrang tumatak sa akin ang sinabi ni Kuya John Lloyd. He said that an award is merely a recognition and does not define who I am as an actor. It’s my diligence, passion and perseverance to improve my craft that will determine the kind of projects I will have in the future. He said that I’m just as good as my last work,” Christian shared with the Inquirer.
