Bianca Gonzalez’s recent post on social media echoed the sentiments of many netizens who came upon it. Gonzalez took to Twitter last Sept. 9 wherein she shared a picture while inside the Ninoy Aquino International Airport. In her photo, Gonzalez showed fellow passengers crowding around the baggage retrieval area and going beyond the “Wait behind yellow line” sign.

“Behind the yellow line,” Gonzalez wrote. “I really don’t understand what is so hard about following this simple rule.”

Gonzalez’s tweet has since garned thousands of favorites on Twitter and over 1,000 retweets. Many of the netizens replied to Gonzalez’s tweet, with some venting their own grievances over the situation.

Columnist Noemi Dado also replied to Gonzalez, writing that people who don’t follow the simple airport rule have always been her pet peeve.

“A pet peeve talaga!” Dado wrote last Sept. 10. “Simple instructions…”

Meanwhile, a certain Carlo (@solitaryyprince) shared his own experience at the airport where he was pushed by those wanting to get ahead.

“I know. I experienced being pushed by some people who wanted to get ahead and wait literally in front of the carousel,” he said on Sept. 9. “They even looked at me like I’m being a nuisance for waiting patiently behind the yellow line.”

This doesn’t just happen in the airport, though. A certain Jeserie (@uniquelyjeserie) shared a similar experience she had while waiting in the LRT-1 station.

“Called out two people waiting in line in LRT 1 that they were supposed to stay on the side of the markings to give way to those disembarking the train, but they shrugged me off,” she wrote last Sept. 10.

“That’s how we recognize Filipinos when traveling abroad,” quipped one Igie (@igiereues). “Kind of rude but can’t help but to just make fun of it. Maybe we need to put this more in social media so Filipinos [will] be more aware that even simple rules [do] really make a difference.”

Not all hope is lost, however. One netizen, a certain Doms (@domsabunda), shared with Gonzalez a video he took of passengers waiting patiently for their luggage behind the yellow line.

“This is the flight from Naga City, all followed the simple rule. Meron pa rin naman sumusunod,” he said.

It isn’t just Gonzalez who’s encountered people who failed to follow the simple rule in the airport. Last March,  Lea Salonga took to her Twitter as she narrated how she called out a lady who didn’t follow the rule of staying behind the yellow line while waiting for her luggage.

Mga simpleng patakaran, ayaw sundin. Kahit saan,” Salonga wrote then. “Kailangan pa ba tanungin kung bakit bilang bansa, hindi tayo umuunland?

As per Salonga, the fellow Filipino eventually recognized her and that was when she took the opportunity to tell her to back up behind the line.

Salonga said then, “End of the story, lady recognized me, after which I told her to back up to behind the yellow line while saying she wasn’t supposed to be there. Firmly, but not meanly.”  /ra
