It was a busy working weekend for Megastar Sharon Cuneta.

On Saturday, she graced the History Maker Awards at the World Trade Center Manila—where she met up with fellow honorees and screen partners Christopher de Leon, Albert Martinez and Aga Muhlach.

Mega jokingly exclaimed that she couldn’t help beaming because she was sandwiched between her “ultimate crush” Christopher and “puppy love ex-beau” Albert in the photo session.

FEATURED STORIES

She related that she had just bought a copy of Christopher’s old film with another favorite Hilda Koronel, Laurice Guillen’s “Kasal?”—the first Filipino movie she saw in a movie house in 1980.

Christopher said he was honored to score the History Maker Award with his leading ladies Sharon, Vilma Santos and Nora Aunor. “The movies for which Vilma and Sharon won their grand slam awards were with me—‘Relasyon’ for Vilma and ‘Madrasta’ for Sharon. Nora’s first Urian best actress was also with me—‘Tatlong Taong Walang Diyos,’” he recalled.

Albert recounted that he was supposed to be Sharon’s first ka-loveteam in “Dear Heart” in 1981. But his home studio Regal didn’t allow him to do the Sining Silangan movie, and he was sent to Vigan to topbill “Bata Pa si Sabel” with Snooky Serna, instead.

Her life could’ve been different if not for that twist of fate, Sharon remarked. Mega and Albert finally got to share the screen 16 years later in Jose Javier Reyes’ “Nang Iniwan Mo Ako.”

Sharon volunteered that Albert’s late wife (and Aga’s cousin), Liezl Martinez, was her “cheerleader” during her weight-loss journey. “We were texting each other right before her passing.”

She described Aga, who marked his 49th birthday the following day, as her best buddy, the only person who could make her “batok and boljak” whenever she’s being overly dramatic.

Aga concurred, saying that he could be brutally honest with her—just like their characters Enteng and Emmy in Reyes’ “Kung Ako na Lang Sana.” (Another fave partner of Aga’s, Broadway star Lea Salonga, is a History Maker honoree, as well.)

Sharon regards these leading men not just as colleagues, but as cherished friends, too.

Her real-life leading man, Sen. Francis Pangilinan, attended the History Maker ceremony, with their kids Frankie, Miel and Miguel in tow.

On Sunday afternoon, Mega reported for work at the ABS-CBN compound for the story conference of Star Cinema’s “Three Words to Forever”—her reunion movie with another frequent partner, Richard Gomez.

Cathy Garcia-Molina’s family drama is the duo’s seventh collaboration—after “Buy One, Take One,” “Kahit Wala Ka Na,” “Ngayon at Kailanman,” “Kapantay ay Langit,” “Minsan, Minahal Kita” and “Walang Kapalit.”
