Solenn Heussaff: Trash flood issue more important than driver-only car ban

For Solenn Heussaff, yesterday’s massive flooding on Roxas Boulevard which brought with it Manila Bay’s garbage, bears more importance than the driver-only car ban rule in EDSA.
“Up! Ito ba yung gusto niyo para sa bansa natin? Para sa mga anak niyo? (Is this what you want for our country? For your children?)” asked the actress in a post via Instagram Stories yesterday, Aug. 11. Heussaff re-uploaded a video showcasing the “sea of garbage” that took the stretch of Roxas Boulevard yesterday.

“Issues like this are [more] important than the ‘Bawal ang single sa car (singles are prohibited from the car)’ rule,” she continued. “I’m not an expert but [there are] many things you can do.”
Heussaff then said that one of the ways people can help alleviate the problem is to stop using single-use plastics. She added that people must also dispose of plastics properly to recycle. She also called for barangays to educate parents and for parents to educate, in turn, their children about proper waste disposal.
The actress, through her Instagram page, suggested that the government should add garbage bins everywhere, perhaps so that people can no longer use as excuse the lack of trash bins for not properly disposing garbage. Heussaff also suggested that the government should “fine people for [real] when they litter.”
While Heussaff deemed the “sea of garbage” issue more important than the driver-only car ban rule, she also acknowledged the dangers that the rule posed.
“The one person car rule is so dangerous: either the person driver will get mugged or person in car can kidnap or abuse person to ride,” said the actress on Twitter today. “Seriously! [W]hat is happening here!”

In a separate Tweet, she suggested the things which the government should focus on.
“Things they could do: [Proper] transport; add trains for MRT; educate bus/jeepney drivers; [and] educate [people] on trash so nothing [gets] clogged etc!” she pointed out.

This isn’t the first time Solenn Heussaff spoke up about improper waste management in the country. Last May, the actress took to Twitter to lament about the increasing amount of trash on the streets. JB
