LOOK: Aicelle Santos is a true ‘warrior princess’ as she battles plica syndrome

There is no stopping theater actress Aicelle Santos from excellently playing her role as Gigi van Tranh in the musical “Miss Saigon”.
Santos, who posed for a photo while donning a costume, and posted said photo on her Instagram page last June 16, shared that she currently suffers from a condition involving her knees.
Like her character in “Miss Saigon”, she stated that she feels like a “warrior princess” “dahil araw-araw nilalabanan ang tuhod (because everyday I fight knee [ache]).”
Santos revealed she has Plica syndrome. She was even lighthearted as she mentioned it to her fans: “I-google niyo na lang ang ibig sabihin. Mahirap i-explain eh.” (Just google what it means, it’s difficult to explain.)

“Araw-araw nananalanging maitawid ang palabas (Praying everyday to keep the show going). FIGHT!” Santos said.
Plica syndrome is the condition of having inflamed plica, a fold of synovial membrane found in the knee, states the website of Physiotherapy Brisbane. It can be caused by altered knee motion, repetitive knee strengthening and bending, among others.
Santos is currently on a year-long run of the Alain Boublil and Claude-Michel Schönberg musical in the United Kingdom. Before her, Rachelle Ann Go played the same role in the musical’s Broadway run. JB
