If there’s one thing actress Heart Evangelista had learned about motherhood this early on in her pregnancy, “it’s that it won’t always be sunshine and butterflies, sometimes there will be cloudy moments,” she shared on her Instagram account on Thursday.

The actress revealed that she and husband Sen. Francis “Chiz” Escudero found out they were having twins during her first ultrasound; however, they unfortunately lost one of the twins.

Evangelista posted a photo of her ultrasound showing two embryos and their development.

“Unfortunately one of the embryos was smaller and behind in terms of development and so we lost one of the twins. Our hearts were heavy at the thought but we knew we had to focus on the good,” she wrote.

“This is the first photo of the twins where you can see the other embryo who is healthy and showing more positive signs of development,” she added.

But instead of focusing on the heartbreaking news, the actress channeled the pain into positivity and regarded the experience as something she could learn from to be a better mom.

“We now have a little angel up there and I trust that God is with us on this beautiful journey. I have to thank my wonderful husband who really has been my partner through it all,” she wrote. /je
