WATCH: Joan Didion documentary coming in Netflix

A documentary on the influential American writer Joan Didion is hitting Netflix this month, and the streaming service has just released a first look.

“Joan Didion: The Center Will Not Hold” is directed by Didion’s nephew, Griffin Dunne, who surveys the writer’s career and personal struggles in the film.

In the trailer, Didion, who is now 82, talks about her start as a writer, and a number of figures weigh in on her writing and influence.

FEATURED STORIES

Stories about the writer’s happy family life and rubbing elbows with the stars are juxtaposed with loss, which Didion famously incorporated into her writing.

Didion is the author of nonfiction classics “The Year of Magical Thinking”, “Political Fictions” and “Slouching Towards Bethlehem”. She also wrote screenplays, most of them in collaboration with her late husband, author John Gregory Dunne, namely for the films “A Star Is Born” (1976), “True Confessions” (1981) and “Up Close and Personal” (1996).
