Marvel’s “New Warriors” presents a different take on the comic book characters, some of which were members of a goofy team inspired by the Avengers in the source material.

The 10-episode series, which will be on Freeform like the previously announced Marvel show “Cloak and Dagger” next year, will focus on six quirky heroes: Squirrel Girl (Milana Vayntrub), Mister Immortal (Derek Theler), Microbe (Matthew Moy), Debrii (Kate Comer), Night Thrasher (Jeremy Tardy) and Speedball (Calum Worthy).

Theler was previously in “Baby Daddy,” while Vayntrub played a recurring character in the first season of “This Is Us.”
Moy was a cast member of the recently canceled “Two Broke Girls.”

Three other actresses expressed interest in portraying the rodent-communicating Squirrel Girl, including “Parenthood’s” Mae Whitman, “Riverdale’s” Shannon Purser and “Pitch Perfect’s” Anna Kendrick. —OLIVER PULUMBARIT
