MANZANO. Returns to acting.

Edu Manzano returns to acting in GMA 7’s “Someone To Watch Over Me,” as the father of Tom Rodriguez. Edu’s character is diagnosed with early onset Alzheimer’s disease.

He says he accepted the series because it’s an inspiring family drama about a wife’s unwavering love for her ailing husband.

Politics and several businesses have kept Edu, who’s turning 61 this month, away from show biz for some time. He was a former president of the Actors’ Guild of the Philippines and chair of the Optical Media Board. He missed forging relationships with his colleagues in the industry.

He wants to experience working with the new breed of independent filmmakers because “I’ve seen some indie films I was very impressed with.”

Asked to comment about his son Luis’ new love interest, the actor quipped, “He’s already 35—we shouldn’t meddle in his love life anymore!”
