I’ve always admired Karylle. She’s not your typical publicity-hungry celeb. She always handles herself with class and grace. No amount of controversy can ever make her lose her poise.
Karylle’s latest venture is the third branch of the family KTV and resto-bar Centerstage (at the Mall of Asia, Seaside Area) of which she is part owner. That is where she sings her heart out—a heart that has been to hell and back. Yet, it still has so much more to give.
Here are excerpts from the Inquirer interview with Karylle.
Is Dingdong Dantes still your business partner?
Nope. He didn’t invest in the new branch anymore.
(The actor is co-owner of the first two branches of Centerstage resto-bar.
Are you ready to work with Dong if a good project comes along?
I try not to have any restrictions when it comes to work.
Your portrayal in the TV musical drama series “Kitchen Musical” was recognized in Monte Carlo. Do you feel that your acting is more appreciated abroad?
I feel appreciated by Filipinos in general. I meet a lot of them here and abroad, thanks to ABS-CBN TFC, and whenever I am away to work I feel the love everywhere I go, especially because of Twitter … I get a lot of messages from everyone.
Monte Carlo was loads of fun. I met Prince Albert and Princess Charlene (of Monaco) at the palace. I saw a lot of Hollywood stars. I was so happy to introduce myself to (American actor) Ted Danson. I was super star-struck standing next to (American actress) Eva Longoria.
Any international project again soon?
“Point of Entry” season 3 premieres on Nov. 29 at 8 p.m. on Singapore’s MediaCorp Channel 5. Along with Filipino actors Simon Ibarra and Micah Muñoz, I flew to Singapore to shoot some scenes there.
What are your fave Karaoke songs?
“Wanna Be,” “Call Me Maybe,” “Since You’ve Been Gone,” “Where Have You Been,” “All My Life,” and “We Are Young.”
How do you show your Mom your support now that she’s in mourning?
I just have to be with her more. I realized that when I watched “We Bought a Zoo.” I cried so much [while] watching the movie. The character of Matt Damon lost his wife, and it gave me a glimpse of how deeply sad mourning actually was. I think taking long walks or talking endlessly over tea is the best time we spend together now.
We also have an ongoing family chat over iMessage 24/7 since we’re always somehow in different countries or different places. But for now, all the girls are here. Nicole is back so the Tres Marias are in full force for Mama.
