Priscilla Meirelles not open to joining Miss Universe: ‘I had my time’

Priscilla Meirelles is firm on not joining Miss Universe because she wanted to give other beauty queens a chance to shine on the global stage, despite making a name for herself in pageantry.

Meirelles addressed the possibility of joining Miss Universe in a “Fast Talk With Boy Abunda” interview on Friday, February 28 when asked by Abunda. The latter’s remark comes after the global tilt opened its doors to married women and mothers since its 72nd edition in 2023.

“I would think [about joining Miss Universe]. I’m not so sure if I would pursue [it],” she said. “If I ever get to pursue [it], maybe it’s just for the experience. Because I think it’s kind of unfair [to join]. I had my time. I’ve been there, I’ve done that.”

The former beauty queen said she already has “nine crowns and three international” titles, among them on her Miss Globe International 2003, Miss Earth 2004, and Noble Queen of the Universe 2024 titles.

“I joined nine pageants. I have nine crowns, three international… Unfortunately, it’s not Miss Universe. I think I had my share of the cake, many slices of the cake, so I think it’s time for others,” she said.

Meirelles said she would rather use her pageant experience to help other beauty queens. “I would love to contribute in other ways. Maybe supporting others to have their chance also.”

During the interview, she said she wants to focus on exploring more of the Philippines and enjoying experiences as she navigates through her 40s.

“I’m looking forward to traveling, getting to know the Philippines because I love this country,” she said. “I am looking forward to going back to acting. I am looking forward to supporting my daughter in her endeavors. I am looking forward to growing older happy, in peace, and with the knowledge that God has my back all the time.”

In the same interview, Meirelles said that she is still “legally married” to John Estrada following their controversial lovers’ quarrel in the past year, although she remained mum if they are still living together in one house.
