South Korean actor-singer Seo In-guk was designated by the Department of Tourism (DOT) to be the Philippines’ Celebrity Tourism Ambassador for Korea.
Seo was officially given the title as he signed the memorandum of understanding with the DOT on Friday, Feb. 21, as seen in a livestream on the agency’s Facebook page.
Present at the event were Tourism Secretary Christina Garcia Frasco, Tourism Promotions Board Philippines Chief Operating Officer (COO) Maria Margarita Montemayor Nograles, and Neocolors Prod and Advertising Inc. President and CEO Christine Daguno, among others.
“It feels very nice and it’s an honor for me to be on this stage. I really feel big responsibility as a representative and as a promoter for one country,” Seo said in Korean.
“I really want to thank everyone for making this happen for me, and I really want to say that I will give back all the love that you gave to me,” he added. “I will be someone who will promote the Philippines to others in the future. Mahal ko kayo.”
According to the DOT, its partnership with Seo “aims to enhance the already thriving cultural and tourism connections between the Philippines and South Korea.”
It further noted that Seo will “engage in various promotional activities in both countries, showcasing iconic destinations like Boracay, Cebu, and Manila.”
Seo is best known for starring in Korean drama series “Reply 1997,” “High School King of Savvy,” “Shopping King Louie,” “Cafe Mimandang” and “Death’s Game.”
He is also set to star alongside Blackpink’s Jisoo in the upcoming series “Boyfriend on Demand.” The pair were earlier spotted filming in Cebu, although it was not immediately confirmed if it was for the said project.
