India will once again host the Miss World pageant this year, after having the 71st edition of the international competition in February 2024.
The Miss World Organization (MWO) announced on social media late night on Wednesday, Feb. 19, that the South Asian country will host the 2025 competition in May, in the southern state of Telangana.
“The world’s most prestigious beauty festival, Miss World, is set to return to India for its second edition, with Telangana proudly hosting the global event in 2025,” MWO posted online.
Last year’s competition was held in Mumbai, India, in February, where Krsytyna Pyszkova bested 111 other delegates from around the world to post the Czech Republic’s second victory.
MWO said the 72nd edition will span 28 days, with several activities planned to take place all around Telangana. The opening ceremonies and grand finale will be held in the state capital of Hyderabad.
“Miss World moves to Telangana–where tradition meets innovation, and beauty is celebrated in all forms. Today, Miss World stands as the most recognized and is the oldest-running beauty festival, championing diverse representations of beauty with a purpose, and promoting humanitarian causes worldwide,” the organization said.
MWO quoted Chair Julia Morley as saying, “[t]his collaboration is not just about hosting the Miss World Festival, it’s about empowering communities, celebrating diversity, and making a lasting impact through our shared commitment to beauty with a purpose.”
Delegates from more than 120 countries and territories around the world are expected to arrive in Telangana on May 4, with the coronation of Pyszkova’s successor scheduled on May 31.
Krishnah Gravidez hopes to post the Philippines’ second victory in the international pageant. To date, Megan Young remains to be the lone Filipino Miss World winner. She was crowned in Indonesia in 2013.
