Filipino indie band Ang Bandang Shirley has announced its disbandment, with its members saying the “past allegations” against their bandmate Ean Aguila “have significantly affected” the group.
“This January, past allegations towards Ean resurfaced with new information, which has significantly affected the band the members. Let it be known that we strongly do not condone his behavior, and we urged him to take full responsibility for his actions,” the group said in a statement released on the band’s Instagram page on Wednesday, Feb. 19.
They further disclosed that Aguila eventually decided to quit the band, a decision they have supported.
“We sincerely hope for the healing of all the parties involved,” they continued.
“As for the rest of the band members, we have decided not to continue as a band. This is the end for Ang Bandang Shirley,” they stated. “We thank you for all your support and for listening to our music throughout the years.”

While the band did not expound on the past allegations against Aguila, it can be recalled in 2017 that sexual misconduct claims against the musician as well as his bandmate Owel Alvero arose on X (formerly Twitter). Aguila was accused of being “fond of minors” while Alvero was called out for objectifying women.
In January, the allegations resurfaced after a former fan’s revelation of her past romantic relationship with Aguila when she was just 17 years old. Aguila was allegedly 30 years old at the time.
The woman further showed screenshots of her alleged conversations with Aguila which showed suggestive remarks from the latter.
Also among the screenshots she shared was her apparent conversation with Filipino singer Bullet Dumas who allegedly invited her to have “jootsex” with him.
Ang Bandang Shirley, founded in 2003, is best known for their songs “Nakauwi Na,” “Di Na Babalik” and “Umaapaw.”
