MNL48’s Sheki announces departure from group

Sheki Arzaga, the former overall captain of MNL48, will depart from the P-pop idol group after seven years and will continue her entertainment activities as a solo artist.
Arzaga’s departure was announced in an official statement on the group’s social media platforms on Tuesday, February 18, although the reason behind her exit was not disclosed.
“Sheki, who has been under our company, will continue her career as a solo artist under the name Sheki Arzaga. We sincerely thank all the fans who have supported her during her time in MNL48. We appreciate your continued support as she embarks on this new journey,” the statement read.

In a separate statement, Arzaga said her time in MNL48 has been the “most rewarding and unforgettable experience,” adding that she had a wonderful opportunity to “touch the hearts” of fans.
“From being the center girl to overall captain, every role deepened my love for the group, made me want to stand up for them, and gave me a sense of responsibility for everything we built together. I’ve always wanted to see us succeed, and I’ll forever cherish the lessons and memories we shared,” she wrote.

Arzaga also thanked her fans, co-members, and the management for supporting her throughout her seven-year stay in the group.
“As I embark on this new adventure, I hope you will stay by my side as I take on a new challenge as a solo artist and pursue opportunities on a global stage. Your love and support have always meant so much, and I’m excited to share this next chapter with all of you,” she added.
A first-generation member, Arzaga was appointed as the overall captain of MNL48 in March 2021 before her title was passed to Jem Caldejon in June 2024. She made her solo debut in December 2022.
Formed in 2018, MNL48 is the international sister group of J-pop idol group AKB48. The group is dubbed as the “P-pop idol pioneers.”
