Philmar Alipayo is celebrating a major social media milestone as he hit 1 million followers on Facebook, though for netizens the timing couldn’t be more controversial after he and partner Andi Eigenmann made headlines for their lovers’ spat.
The Siargao-based surfer recently took to social media to express gratitude for the surge in his followers.
“Maraming salamat, nakaabot na tayo sa 1M. Lubos akong nagpapasalamat sa lahat ng sumuporta at tumutok sa akin. Tuloy-tuloy lang tayo!” he wrote in his native language.
(Thank you very much, we’ve reached 1M. I am truly grateful to everyone who supported and followed me. Let’s keep going!)
In the comments section, netizens teased Alipayo that he gained followers because of Eigenmann and Swedish photographer Pernilla Sjoo, who was blamed for the tiff between the couple.
Sjoo was painted as the third party after she and Alipayo got a matching “224” tattoo, which means “2Today, 2Tomorrow, 4Forever,” according to the former’s Instagram caption, whose account has now been deactivated.
“Kung wala ang issue wala mag increase,” said one netizen, in which Alipayo responded, “Salamat kay isa ka sa nag mahal nako,” which translates to “Salamat dahil isa ka sa mga nagmamahal sa akin” in Filipino. (Thank you because you are one of those who love me.)

After the publicized lovers’ quarrel, Alipayo recently shared that he and Eigenmann had already made up, even surprising the latter with a bouquet of flowers made from banana blossom and leaves on Valentine’s Day.
Eigenmann also recently gave a glimpse of their family bonding, as she emphasized in her caption that “everything will be quiet again in the name of family.”
