Boy Abunda remains a Kapuso, renews GMA contract

Boy Abunda has renewed his talent contract with GMA Network, which the veteran TV host regards as his “home.”

Abunda strengthened his ties with the Kapuso network at a contract renewal-signing event attended by GMA President and CEO Gilberto Duavit Jr. and Entertainment Group Senior Vice President Lilybeth Rasonable on Tuesday, Feb. 18.

“This has always been my home. Hindi ako nahirapan bumalik sa GMA 7 because dito. ako nag-umpisa,” said Abunda, dubbed the “King of Talk,” as seen in a clip shared on GMA’s Instagram page.

“And I continue to be grateful,” he added.

Duavit also shared good words about Abunda, saying, “As time went by and as the time has changed, so did you but in a unique manner.

Rasonable, for her part, expressed gratitude to Abunda for being generous with bits of advice to other artists, especially the new ones.

Abunda first joined GMA in the 1990s as a public relations consultant, then became a host of some of the network’s talk shows including  “Show and Tell” and “Startalk.”

The TV host then transferred to ABS-CBN in 1999, where he hosted the series “The Buzz,” “Boy & Kris,” “Kontrobersyal,” “Showbiz News Ngayon,” “The Bottomline with Boy Abunda” and “Tonight with Boy Abunda.” He left the Kapamilya network in 2020, then returned to GMA in December 2022.
