Heart Evangelista vows to ‘make a change’ as head of Senate spouses org
Being a politician’s wife could not be that easy, but actress-fashion icon Heart Evangelista vowed to “continuously make a change” as the newly-installed president of the Senate Spouses Foundation Inc (SSPI).
In an ambush interview, Evangelista said Filipinos wouldn’t see her merely having her pictures taken — even if it’s something that she is used to, being an actress and fashion influencer.
“In a sense, you know, even if it’s not my world, I won’t be doing the same thing. You won’t be expecting me to be going to certain things just to take pictures. I really want to do something and continuously make a change. Na hindi lang siya — para lang dahil artista na nailagay sa ganitong position. I want to work so I’m excited,” Evangelista told reporters.

Despite her willingness, Evangelista admitted she’s somehow nervous about assuming the post. She then acknowledged that being the organization’s president, in itself, is a daunting task.

Evangelista replaced Audrey Tan-Zubiri from leading the organization after the latter’s husband — Senator Juan Miguel Zubiri — was ousted as Senate president in May.
SSPI is responsible for mounting charitable missions and humanitarian projects alongside senators’ legislative work.
Under Evangelista’s leadership, the organization will focus its efforts on helping women and children. According to her, they will also continue what previous foundation heads have begun.
“Marami rin silang nagawa na mga very small infrastructure that we would come back to and do again, helping rebuild certain buildings and marami pa. Ayoko rin kasi mag super siklab, but definitely, in the coming days I’ll be working a lot so I’d rather [let] them see that I am working than just say this and that,” she explained.
