MANILA, Philippines — Fashion icon Heart Evangelista took her oath as the President of the Senate Spouses Foundation Inc. on Wednesday.
The ceremony was held at the Senate building early morning of June 5.
Evangelista replaced Audrey Tan-Zubiri from leading the organization after the latter’s husband — Senator Juan Miguel Zubiri — was ousted from his Senate Presidency in May.
After the seismic shakeup in the chamber, Senator Francis “Chiz” Escudero immediately took his oath as the 25th Senate President of the Philippines.

SSFI was created in 1987 after spouses of senators organized themselves, aspiring to reach out to a greater number of Filipinos, especially the elderly.
The foundation was envisioned to be involved in social civic activities such as building homes for the elderly, conducting medical and dental missions, gift-giving and feeding programs for street children and the needy in marginalized communities, as well as carrying out relief operations during natural disasters.
