Marina Summers had a “dream come true”-moment after she represented the LGBTQIA+ community and brought drag to the Miss Universe Philippines stage, culminating in an explosive production number alongside her pageant sisters.
Marina, one of the celebrity performers at the pageant’s coronation night on Wednesday, May 22, opened the event with a fiery performance of her song “Amafilipina.” The track is the drag queen’s anthem which is an adaptation of Maymay Entrata’s hit song “Amakabogera.”
Marina delivered in a red wave-like dress which she later removed, revealing a sparkling silver fringe dress by Filipino designer Rian Fernandez underneath. Marina was joined by Miss Universe Philippines 2023 Michele Dee in some parts of the opening number.
After the delegates’ introductions in between her performance, Marina stood in front of the microphone and also introduced herself in pageant fashion. “Marina Summers, The Philippines!” she exclaimed.
Sharing a clip of such moment via her Instagram page, she wrote, “This is for every baklang chikiting that dreamed of saying this iconic line. Oras na para tayo naman ang rumampa.”
“Thank you [Miss Universe Philippines and Empire Philippines] for the opportunity to open this show! Congratulations to all the candidates on such an amazing performance,” she added.
