Miss Universe Philippines 2020 Rabiya Mateo expressed her support for fellow Ilongga Alexie Brooks, hours before the national tilt is set to crown a new queen on Wednesday, May 22.

Brooks is representing Iloilo City at the Miss Universe Philippines 2024 pageant, where she consistently topped the attention of pageant analysts, as seen on their hot picks for the crown.

Mateo took to her Instagram account to praise Brooks for her “hard work and sacrifice” throughout the pageant, saying the universe is “ready” for the latter.

“Few hours before coronation, I just wanna commend this beautiful Ilongga for all her hard work and sacrifice together with her amazing team behind her. I’m sure the universe is ready to hear your story, Alexie! Bato lang! Abanse Babaye,” she wrote.

The former titleholder said she would “scream [at the top] of [her] lungs” in support of Brooks, as she hoped that fellow Ilongga would be crowned as the winner.

“I can’t wait to see you later on the MUPH stage. I’ll be screaming [at the top] of my lungs as I cheer for you. I know you’re gonna do very well. Praying for another Ilongga to represent the Philippines in Miss Universe. Xoxo, Manang Ibyang,” she said.

Mateo was crowned Miss Universe Philippines in 2020 and represented the country at the global tilt in the same year. She ended her Miss Universe stint at the Top 21.

Mexico’s Andrea Meza was named the winner of the Miss Universe 2020 pageant.
