Gabbi Garcia, who has long been enticed by pageant aficionados, including reigning Miss Universe Michelle Marquez Dee, to try her hand at pageantry, finally “granted” their wish.

On Instagram, the Kapuso actress treated her fans to a glimpse of what could have been if she’d been one of the candidates for Miss Universe after she edited herself in a funny reaction video that had become “iconic” in 2010 when Venus Raj vied for the Miss Universe crown.

The video began with a group of Filipino fashion designers led by Martin Bautista nervously awaiting for their candidate to be called. Garcia then appeared on their television screen rocking first a red asymmetrical cut-out gown, then a heavily encrusted Filipiniana gown with a matching headpiece.

As the TV commentator called out Miss Philippines as the winner, Garcia is shown in a sleek emerald green halter gown with cutouts on the side to highlight her curves, while her “supporters” screamed their lungs out.

However, the “Encantadia” actress had to come clean at the end of the video: “Charot! Next time na yan. Host lang ako. See you tomorrow, Miss Universe Philippines.”

True enough, Garcia would be debuting as one of the hosts of the Miss Universe Philippines 2024 coronation night on Wednesday, May 22, alongside fellow Kapuso, actor Alden Richards. They will share hosting duties with Miss Universe 2022 R’Bonney Gabriel, Emmy-winning host Jeannie Mai and Tim Yap.

In February, Garcia debunked rumors that she tried joining MUPH, saying that even though it is her childhood dream, it’s not that easy to join the competition. “Pero nakakatuwa and nakakakilig because they’re considering me, but at the same time, kasi that’s a lot of things to process, hindi naman ganoon kadali sumali lang,” she said.

The “My Destiny” star shared at the time that Dee, then fresh from her successful Miss Universe campaign in El Salvador, had reached out to her to ask about the rumors, as the latter has always wanted Garcia to join the pageant.

Meanwhile, Dee, who finished in the Top 10 in Miss Universe 2023 and took home four special awards, will crown her successor at the end of the coronation night.
