A restored version of the 1980 film “Bona,” which stars screen veterans Nora Aunor and Philip Salvador, will be screened at the 2024 edition of the Cannes Classics in September.

This was announced on Cannes’ website on Thursday, April 25, where the Lino Brocka-helmed film was among the chosen entries to be included under the Cannes Classics 2024 selection.

Restored in 4K with the help of Kani Releasing and Carlotta Films, “Bona” will be screened on Sept. 25, 2024, where it will be graced by filmmaker Vincent Paul-Boncour, founder of Carlotta Films.

“A Kani Releasing and Carlotta Films presentation. New version restored in 4K by Carlotta Films and Kani Releasing at the Cité de Mémoire laboratory (Paris) from the original 35mm image and sound negatives preserved by LTC Patrimoine. Special thanks to Pierre Rissient and José B. Capino,” its website read.

The Aunor and Salvador-starrer tells the story of an infatuated teenager who discovers that her admired bit actor turns out to be a middle-aged boy toy who takes advantage of other women, including herself.

“Bona” was first released in 1980 as one of the entries of the sixth Metro Manila Film Festival, then was screened at the 1981 Cannes International Film Festival. It also starred Raquel Montesa, Rustica Carpio, and Marissa Delgado.
