Gary Valenciano opens doors to acting, mentorship as he joins Star Magic
Gary Valenciano doesn’t have any qualms about returning to acting as he signed a contract with ABS-CBN’s Star Magic, marking a milestone in his 40-year career.
Apart from performing, Valenciano said his “doors are open to other artistic ventures” in a press conference held shortly after his contract signing at the Dolphy Theater in ABS-CBN’s headquarters earlier this month.
“The fact that my doors are open to other artistic ventures, such as I don’t mind going back to acting more,” he said. “Hindi ko sinasabi na tatanggap ako ng kahit ano (I’m not saying that I will accept anything), but if the right project comes, I will certainly keep myself open to that.”

The singer-performer then shared that if he had the chance to choose his dream role, he would love to take on a character who’s frustrated with not being able to fulfill something he wanted to be when he was passionate about.

But they never [made their dreams happen]. They became somebody totally different,” he said. “It could be good, it could be bad. It would be far from what they wanted to be. I want to star as one of them.”

“He had dreams of becoming someone good and impactful, but his life became messy. He did a lot of things. But now it has become an obstacle in achieving his dream, although he would be redeemed in the end,” he said.

Gary’s next chapter
Explaining his reasons for wanting to play an “offbeat” character, he said that he met a lot of students going through different stages of “uncertainties” in their lives.
“And, I’m here to tell them that I had no plans to become an entertainer or a singer, God had other plans and I just made myself available to be of use in that way and that’s why I’m still around,” he said.
Valenciano, who will hold his “Pure Energy: One Last Time” concert on April 26 and 27, he said he wants to serve as a mentor to younger artists and “something else,” although he kept his lips sealed on the details.
“I’m more into being able to mentor or spend time with young people, especially the student body. Music, I plan to do it. But I plan to do something else,” he said. “A career is made of different seasons. Many things remained outstanding in my career.”
