Filipino-American actor Jacob Batalon—best known for his “Spider-Man” stint—will be face to face with unspeakable evil in the upcoming film “Tarot,” which he said “supernatural horror”-loving Filipinos will enjoy.
Batalon gave a shout-out to his fans in the Philippines through a video on Columbia Pictures Philippines’ YouTube page on Wednesday, April 17.
“Mabuhay, Pilipinas! I know you love supernatural horror. Good news—a fun, scary day at the cinema is in the cards for you,” he said.
“Arat na!” he exclaimed, referring to a popular local remark which means “Tara na” (Let’s go).
“Tarot” follows the story of a group of friends who violated the sacred rule of Tarot readings, and unleashed an evil within the cursed cards. Each one from the group, which includes Batalon, then met “their deadly fate dealt to them.”
“There’s something inherently scary about tarot cards and tarot readings,” Director-writer Anna Halberg said. “We love astrology and horoscopes because it’s a way to learn about yourself, but it’s also a way to bring clarity and to learn about the future.”
“Horror is best experienced in a group. There’s something so scary and fun about sitting in a dark theater with a group of strangers and going on this emotional rollercoaster,” she added.
The horror film, which also stars Harriet Slater, Adain Bradley, Larsen Thompson and Avantika, is set to premiere in the Philippines on May 1.
