Don’t expect Kylie Verzosa to be all chummy with her exes, as she doesn’t believe that ex-partners, especially those from a “long and committed relationship,” should maintain their friendship.

Verzosa shared her thoughts about relationships and breakups in an April 8 interview with entertainment insider Ogie Diaz, during which she was asked if could be friends with an ex.

“I don’t believe exes should be friends. Respeto rin sa bago mong partner at sa bago niyang partner (It’s about respecting your new partner and your ex’s new partner),” she said.

The beauty queen-turned-actress then clarified that exes can be “civil,” but she admitted that being in constant communication can be “weird.”

“You can be civil, pero ‘yung nakikipag-usap ka ng, ‘Hi, how are you? How are you?’ To me, medyo weird ‘yun (that’s kind of weird),” she said. “You can be civil. You don’t have any bad feelings towards each other, but I don’t think there should still be a friendship. Kasi bakit pa (Because why)?”

When Diaz prodded Verzosa to expound her response, the actress said her thoughts had to do with her past romantic relationships which lasted for “three to five years.”

“Iba kasi sa’kin ‘yung matagal. Matagal ‘yung relationship (It’s different for me because I come from long relationships). If it’s a quick relationship, sure, you can be friends. Why not? But if it’s a long [and] committed relationship, and about the future, then no,” she said.

On breakups

In the interview, Verzosa also felt relief that she was coming from relationships with “supportive partners,” although she noted that breakups are a “normal” thing that help people “learn more” about themselves.

“In each breakup, may matututunan ka about yourself. And about kung ano ang gusto mo sa next relationship. From that breakup, mas natututunan ko kung ano ang gusto ko para sa sarili ko. Marami akong natutunan, pero marami din akong natutunan from that relationship that I didn’t know I needed,” she said.

(In each breakup, you learn something about yourself. And what you want to get from your next relationship. From that breakup, I learned what I wanted for myself. I learned something about myself, but I also learned from the relationship itself that I didn’t know I needed.)

The “Penduko” star also clarified that she’s “happy” with how her past relationships turned out, saying she’s not one to take “personal issues” to social media.

“I’m happy with the relationship either way. I think personal issues should be resolved by the [two people] involved. I don’t see the point for it to be shared because there’s no point in sharing something problematic,” she said.

Verzosa was previously in a relationship with actor Jake Cuenca, who confirmed their split in April 2022.

The former beauty queen is now romantically involved with a non-showbiz guy, whose identity she opted to keep private. Meanwhile, Cuenca is dating Chie Filomeno, but they have yet to officially confirm if they are now in a relationship.
