Pia Wurtzbach is standing firm against bashers who tell her to “stay on her lane as a beauty queen” and not venture into other fields such as fashion.
During an event for a beauty brand on Monday, March 25, the Miss Universe 2015 titleholder addressed the negative comments against her as she makes her presence felt in different international fashion weeks.
“Ito naman na nagta-transition ako into a different field, new opportunities, may bago na naman akong naririnig, ‘Hindi ka bagay diyan, beauty queen ka lang, stay in your lane,’” she said in her speech.
(Now that I’m transitioning into a different field, new opportunities, I’m hearing something new again, ‘You don’t belong there, you’re just a beauty queen, stay in your lane.)
The beauty queen-actress said that the more people try to bring her down, the more she is driven to prove to them that she cannot be stopped from creating a space for herself.
“The more you tell me ‘No,’ the more I’m going to try to prove you wrong,” she remarked. “Don’t tell me I can’t do something because that is the sure way for me to try to make it happen.”
Wurtzbach reiterated that “people who diminish her worth” encourage her to double her effort.
“Nothing fuels me more than negativities, bashers, naysayers, people who diminish my efforts and my worth,” she said.
On Instagram for her newest endorsement, the “My Perfect You” actress encourages women to be more unapologetic for their thoughts and actions, as she champions “women who break expectations and forge their own paths.”
“While others deny us a seat at the table, we’re creating our own space, paving the way for others to follow. Irrelevant after the crown? I fought for my place to be so much more,” she said.
Last month, Wurtzbach reminded the public “to stop pitting women against each other” after her fans and Heart Evangelista’s started comparing them with each other, given that Evangelista is a mainstay at fashion weeks.
