Joseph Aldana, the vocalist of OPM band Rockstar 2 known for their hit songs “Ika’y Mahal Pa Rin” and “Bakit,” among others, died on Thursday morning, Feb. 22. He was 55.

Joseph’s death was confirmed by his son John Mark Aldana and his nephew JC Aldana through an exclusive statement to INQUIRER.net.

“We are deeply saddened to announce that our father Joseph Aldana, aka Rockstar 2, has passed away this morning in Meycauyan Doctor’s Valenzuela due to brain aneurysm,” John Mark said.

No further details on Joseph’s condition were immediately known, although his family said he had hypertension.

Among those who remembered Joseph was veteran composer and songwriter Vehnee Saturno, who appealed to the public and to their mutual friends for financial help for the late singer’s hospital bills and wake expenses.

Some of Joseph’s last TV appearances was in June 2023 in the GMA TV show “TiktoClock,” wherein he performed “Ika’y Mahal Pa Rin.” His band is also behind the OPM songs “Mahal Kita, Alam Mo Ba,” “Wala Pa Ring Iba,” “Patawarin Mo” and “Sumpa.”

The late singer’s wake will be held in Valenzuela from Feb. 22 to 25, and his burial will be on Monday, Feb. 26.
