Eala, who stands in the place no player from the Philippines has ever been in the tennis court, is making her wildcard moment worthwhile after she defeated three consecutive Grand Slam champions in the competition.

The Filipina tennis sensation earned a free ticket into the quarterfinals after her final 16 foe, Paula Badosa of Spain, withdrew because of a lower back injury.

Prior to her match against Swiatek, Eala initially conquered World No. 25 Jeļena Ostapenko of Latvia and fifth seed Madison Keys of the United States.

Eala became the first Filipino netter to defeat a top 30 player and the first Filipina to beat a top-10 opponent since the WTA rankings inception in 1975.

Eala, currently ranked No.140, is expected to enter the World’s Top 100 regardless of the result of her Miami Open campaign.
