Aiko Melendez opens up anew on marred friendship with Candy Pangilinan

Aiko Melendez broke her silence on the alleged misunderstanding between her and Candy Pangilinan and expressed her support for the latter’s upcoming movie, saying it’s a mutual decision to keep mum on their issues.
On Friday, Jan. 19, Melendez took to Instagram to congratulate Pangilinan as well as her other friends Carmina Villarroel, and Gelli and Janice de Belen for her new movie and said it was their choice to handle their issues privately as they prioritized their treasured friendship.
“You know in every friendship you go through tough times too, but in the end what matters is the love and respect. Candy and I chose to keep quiet with what we went through, because we just needed time and healing. And also in our hearts we know in the end our friendship will remain, etched in my heart!” wrote Melendez.
The actress turned city councilor said she and Pangilinan had settled their issues long before, and there was no need to announce it publicly. She also noted her enthusiasm to join her friends in a movie in the future.
“Hindi matatawaran ang pinagsamahan namen. Again Goodluck! And [I] will be supporting your movie. Matagal na po kami ok. We just felt that there is no need to explain or expound kasi mahal ko yan si Candy. So watch [natin] sabay sabay! Sa susunod kumpleto na kami. Showing na po let’s show our support by grabbing tickets!” she said.

Melendez first opened up about the dispute between her and Pangilinan in 2021 when interviewed by comedian and entertainment reporter Ogie Diaz. She confessed that she had ill feelings at the time but did not disclose the reason as a sign of respect for her friend.
“Bilang meron pa akong respeto na natitira para sa kanya, ayoko nang i-elaborate. Kasi matagal kaming naging magkaibigan and mahal ko ‘yong taong ‘yon, gusto ko munang iiwan sa kanya ‘yong konting respeto na ‘yon,” she said then.
“Because nga iniisip ko pa rin, at the end of the day, na naging magkaibigan kami and meron naman siyang magandang nagawa sa buhay ko. Kaya ayoko siyang siraan, ayoko siyang i-bad mouth. Basta ang pinaka-safe na masasabi ko hindi kami okay ngayon,” Melendez added.
