Mavy Legaspi defended himself and his mother Carmina Villarroel from bashers who claimed that he was a “mama’s boy” following his split from rumored girlfriend Kyline Alcantara.
Mavy and his sister Cassy were on the “hot seat” of “Sarap, ‘Di Ba?” show last January 6, hosted by Villarroel, who asked them about the status of their heart.
In response, Mavy pointed out there’s nothing wrong with being loving towards his parents, saying this shouldn’t be construed as a “red flag.”
“Laging tandaan na ang pagmamahal sa isang magulang, whether nanay or tatay, never ‘yun magiging red flag kahit anong mangyari (Always remember that being a loving child towards a parent, whether a mother or father, it will never be a red flag. No matter what happens),” he said, to which his mother agreed.
“Pag sinasabi nilang ‘mama’s boy’ parang masamang pakinggan,” said Villarroel. “Siguro nagkakaron lang ng ‘di magandang dating because meron ibang ‘mama’s boy’ na of age na, marrying age na pero mas pinapakinggan ang nanay over the wife.”
“Ang dami kong nasasabi ganito talaga pag napipigilan ako!” she further said in jest.
Mavy’s remark was an apparent dig at netizens who tagged him as a “mama’s boy” which came at the height of his reported split with Alcantara, who was his erstwhile onscreen partner.
Villarroel, now turning emotional, then gave her message for the twins, but she seemed to give particular attention to Mavy, who was also in tears.
“I’m trying to be careful because baka lagyan ng ibig sabihin yung mga sasabihin ko. I don’t want to overthink. Tatay (Zoren Legaspi) and I are just happy that you’re back. You know that I’d been quiet for the past how many years. Hindi ko alam kung bakit sinasabi nilang nangingialam ako, but I don’t care because I am your mother,” she said.
“Kung nakialam ako, hindi mangyayari ito. So it only means hindi ako nakialam. So that’s why I am just thankful that you’re back. And I want you to know, the two of you, that I would do everything and anything para sa inyong dalawa. Di ko lang kayang pumatay, but I will really defend you sa abot ng makakaya ko,” she added.
Villarroel further made a reference to an incident in the past year that they have hurdled, but she did not specify what it was.
“Yung mga pinagdaanan natin last year, I’m thankful na pinagdaanan natin yon because nakita ko yung strength ng bawat isa. Yung isa gustong mag give up, pero we’re drawing strength from each other. Pag ako yung tinitira si Maverick ang nasasaktan. Pag si Cassy yung tinitira, kami ni Zoren yung nasasaktan. Pero tahimik lang po kami kasi di naman kami palaaway. Ayaw namin yon, gusto lang namin ng peace and love sa lahat,” said Villarroel.
Asked for his birthday wish, Mavy said: “Wish ko lang na maging happy ag pamilya, lalo na ako na maging masaya na ako,” as fresh tears swelled.
Cassy, for her part, said she is also praying for peace for her family.
‘Get your facts right’
During an intimate birthday celebration last January 9 where only “friends and family” were invited, Mavy piqued the attention of netizens when he made a cryptic remark.
“A carousel of friends and family. Proud to share these moments with y’all during this special birthday celebration of my sis @cassy and I,” he said while resharing a post documenting their party.
“Yup, friends and family. Get your facts straight. Get it right, people. It’s 2024,” he further added.
Meanwhile, Cassy took to her Instagram Story on the same day to call for “gv” or “good vibes” when she reshared her twin’s post on IG Stories.
“Yeeeeesssss. Gvs and a fresh New Year only,” she said.
The actress-host also showed her support for singer-actor Darren Espanto’s cryptic post on X (formerly Twitter) in a follow-up Story, where the latter accused certain people of making up rumors instead of knowing the “whole story.”
Both Mavy and Alcantara have yet to speak up about their supposed relationship and the cause of their supposed breakup.
