American singer Michael Bolton announced that he was diagnosed with a brain tumor and had to go through surgery. Consequently, he will take a break from performing as he recovers.
Bolton posted on Instagram on Friday, Jan. 5, to greet his fans for the new year and to share that his medical condition required immediate attention, so he did the operation before the holidays.
“I want to start by wishing everyone a very happy and healthy new year! I also want to share that 2023 ended up presenting me with some very unexpected challenges,” he wrote. “Just before the holidays, it was discovered that I had a brain tumor, which required immediate surgery.”
The music legend then thanked his medical team for the successful outcome of the surgery that made him safely return home.
“Thanks to my incredible medical team, the surgery was a success. I am now recuperating at home and surrounded by the tremendous love and support of my family,” the singer remarked.
The award-winning singer had a scheduled tour in February, but Bolton said he will dedicate his time to recovering in the meantime.
“For the next couple of months, I will be devoting my time and energy to my recovery, which means I’ll have to take a temporary break from touring,” he noted. “It is always the hardest thing for me to disappoint my fans or postpone a show, but I have no doubt I am working hard to accelerate my recovery and get back to performing soon.”
The “Said I Loved You But I Lied” singer extended his gratitude to fans and assured them that he would provide updates at the most convenient time.
“I am beyond grateful for all the love and support you have so generously shown me through the years. Know that I’m keeping your positive messages in my heart, and I’ll give you more updates as soon as I can,” he said.
Bolton is known for his hits “How Am I Supposed to Live Without You,” “When a Man Loves a Woman” and “Go the Distance,” among others.
