Frankie Pangilinan wrote ‘Megastar (Interlude)’ song for mom Sharon Cuneta
Sharon Cuneta, in collaboration with Kindred band, dropped her new song “Megastar (Interlude),” which was penned by her daughter Frankie Pangilinan.
Frankie announced its release while showing what appears to be the track’s cover photo on her Instagram page on Thursday, Sept. 28. The celebrity offspring spoke about how she would just watch her mom work in recording studios before, then finally being able to work with the Megastar years later.
“Despite a career that’s spanned decades and affected generations beyond her own, she’d never owned a record of hers until I wrote this song at three in the morning when [Fern Tan] sent me its bare bones,” Frankie said, referring to one of the members of the band. “This is my gift to her.”
“Megastar (Interlude)” begins with the phrase “Maybe the DJ’s gone,” a reference to veteran songwriter Rey Valera and the hit song he wrote for Cuneta, “Mr. DJ.” Frankie described the track as a “love so deep it transcends all manners of space, connecting people through the buzz of flimsy radio waves.”
“Now that 45 years have passed, the challenge was to write something about the same love only older, aged. Could it transcend time as well?” Frankie stated. “If you listen closely, you can hear Miel and I singing with mommy in the distant background. We’re there as markers of the present.”

Cuneta was earlier in an emotional state after Frankie, whom the Megastar thanked for being a loving and “good daughter,” returned to the United States for her studies.
Cuneta also recently addressed assumptions that Frankie is her favorite child, with the actress-singer stressing that she doesn’t play favorites. Such assumptions apparently arose after KC Concepcion, Megastar’s daughter with Gabby, unfollowed Frankie and Kiko Pangilinan on Instagram, sparking rumors of a tiff between them. /ra
