South Korean singer-actress Bae Suzy will take on the role of a retired K-pop idol who falls in love with a college student in the upcoming series “Doona!”, which is set to premiere on Oct. 20.
“Doona!” revolves around the titular character, played by Bae, who’s living in isolation after retiring from her job as a main vocalist of a K-pop group. She then crosses paths with Lee Won-jun (Yang Se-jong) at a sharehouse in a college town, and eventually falls in love.
The teaser, which was uploaded at a streaming platform’s YouTube channel on Thursday, Sept. 21, showed Bae developing feelings for Yang’s character.
“I’m telling you this just in case, don’t fall for me either,” Bae said in the voiceover, while a scene showed her pulling Yang’s face for a kiss.
The streaming platform also delighted fans with character posters showing Bae and Yang’s blooming romance. It can be noted that the singer-actress’ individual poster contains the line, “But don’t fall for me either,” while the latter’s poster has the words, “I don’t want to feel butterflies over something meaningless.”
The K-drama was confirmed in December 2022, and is an adaptation of the 2019 webtoon “The Girl Downstairs” by writer Min Song-a. The upcoming project is directed by “Crash Landing on You” filmmaker Lee Jung-hyo.
Bae started her entertainment career as a member of the K-pop group Miss A in March 2010, until their disbandment in December 2017.
The “Holiday” singer also made a name for herself as an actress, having appeared in several projects including “Dream High,” “Architecture 101,” “While You Were Sleeping,” “Uncontrollably Fond,” “Start-Up,” and “Vagabond,” among many others.
Meanwhile, Yang is best known for his roles in the K-dramas “Dr. Romantic” and “Still 17.” EDV
