Former couple and now co-stars John Lloyd Cruz and Shaina Magdayao were together as they attended the world premiere of the Lav Diaz-helmed film “Essential Truths of the Lake” at the Locarno Film Festival in Switzerland.
Cruz and Magdayao were among the delegation that flew to Switzerland, as seen on the film festival and the movie’s respective Instagram pages.
Also in attendance at the film festival were Diaz, actress Hazel Orencio, producers Bianca Balbuena, Brad Liew, Joaquim Sapinho and Jeremiah Oh.

Aside from its world premiere, “Essential Truths of the Lake” will also compete in the main competition section of the Swiss film festival, which runs from Aug. 2 to Aug. 12.
While the film is related to Diaz’s 2022 movie “When the Waves Are Gone” because of Cruz’s character Lt. Hermes Papauran, the director clarified that the films are not a “sequel or prequel of the other” and that “they’re independent of each other.”
“Essential Truths of the Lake,” which runs for three and a half hours, also stars Bart Guingona, Agot Isidro, Susan Africa, Dido dela Paz, Reynan Abcede, Ivan Raborar and Paul Jake Paule. /ra
