‘On The Job: The Missing 8,’ ‘Katips’ lead winners at PMPC Star Awards for Movies
The 38th edition of the Philippine Movie Press Club (PMPC) Star Awards for Movies declared “On the Job: The Missing 8” and “Katips” as Movie of the Year and Indie Movie of the Year, respectively.
The sequel to the 2013 film “On the Job”—which also bagged top honors almost a decade ago—clinched Erik Matti another trophy for Movie Director of the Year.
In an Instagram post, Matti—who couldn’t attend the awarding ceremony on Sunday, July 16—acknowledged the effort of the film’s cast and crew.
“To the cast and crew who worked so hard for this film, congratulations! Our film is still being recognized year in year out,” said Matti, who gave a special shout-out to cast member Lotlot de Leon, who along with Janice De Belen, won Supporting Actress of the Year. De Belen was recognized for her work in the Jun Lana feature “Big Night!”

The award-winning director, however, made no mention of “On the Job: The Missing 8” actor John Arcilla, with whom he had a falling out with earlier this year.

The film also took home Movie Screenwriter of the Year and Movie Sound Engineer of the Year, which were awarded to Michiko Yamamoto and Corinne De San Jose, respectively.
Aside from being named the top indie movie, “Katips” also secured the Movie Actor of the Year and Indie Movie Director of the Year for Vince Tañada.
The actor-director, celebrating the wins on Instagram, wrote in his post’s caption, “After Famas, I got the Star. Vindicated, Validated, Victorious!” shared Tañada, alluding to the recognition the film garnered in last year’s Filipino Academy of Movie Arts and Sciences (FAMAS) Awards.

The cast of “Katips” was also proclaimed the best acting ensemble in the indie category. Among the film’s stars are Dexter Doria, Mon Confiado and Johnrey Rivas, who was declared Movie Supporting Actor of the Year. Film and TV composer Pipo Cifra also won Indie Movie Musical Scorer of the Year for the martial law film.
For the Movie Actress of the Year feat, a tie was declared between Sunshine Dizon for “Versus” and Charo Santos-Concio for “Kun Maupay Man It Panahon.”
Dizon took to Instagram to seemingly redo her acceptance speech, claiming that she had more to say but “got too emotional and overwhelmed” during the award’s night. The actress thanked several people including her co-star Gabby Eigenmann, director Ralston Jover and kids Doreen and Antonio.
The “Encantadia” star also expressed that it’s an honor for her to be recognized alongside Santos-Concio, who also posted on Instagram to express her gratitude and appreciation to the PMPC and the people she worked with in the film.
Lifetime achievement awards were also given to veteran actress Helen Gamboa (Nora Aunor Ulirang Artista Lifetime Achievement Award) and award-winning director Chito S. Roño (Ulirang Alagad ng Pelikula sa Likod ng Kamera Lifetime Achievement Award).
